Philadelphia Eagles acquire veteran quarterback Andy Dalton from Carolina Panthers
The Philadelphia Eagles acquired quarterback Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick, according to multiple reports.
Dalton, 37, spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Panthers, primarily backing up Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.[1] In 2024, under first-year head coach Dave Canales, Dalton started five games, going 0-5 with 1,063 passing yards, six touchdowns and nine interceptions.[2][3]
Dalton previously started nine seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2011 to 2019, compiling a 70-61-2 regular-season record and guiding the team to four consecutive playoff appearances from 2011 to 2014 without a postseason victory.[1][4]
Following a midseason trade to the Dallas Cowboys in 2020, Dalton signed with the Chicago Bears in 2021, where he started six games and went 1-5. He then joined the New Orleans Saints in 2022, starting 14 games with a 6-8 record.[2][4]
The move adds experienced depth behind Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, a three-time Pro Bowler who has led Philadelphia since 2020.[5]
The Eagles finished the 2023 regular season 11-6 and earned a playoff berth.[6]
