UFC great Jim Miller picks up victory in first fight since son's cancer battle, makes heartwarming reveal
Jim Miller submits Jared Gordon in UFC return after son's cancer recovery
Jim Miller defeated Jared Gordon by first-round submission at UFC 328 on May 9, 2026, marking his first fight in over a year. The lightweight bout took place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Miller dedicated the victory to his 14-year-old son Wyatt, who recovered from rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer diagnosed last year.
Miller applied a guillotine choke after Gordon attempted a takedown in response to a kick. The New Jersey native, born in Sparta about 40 miles from the venue, fought in front of home-state fans. He had stepped away from the Octagon to support his son through treatment.
Miller holds the UFC record with 28 wins. The victory extends his streak, while Gordon suffered his first consecutive losses since defeats to Carlos Diego Ferreira in February 2018 and Joaquim Silva in December 2018.
Miller's post-fight comments highlighted his son's resilience: "My son went through some really difficult times in the last couple of months. He ended up kicking the s--- out of cancer, and he’s all good today. We are cancer free. And one of the things I told him when he was dealing with it when he first got diagnosed is Millers have been called a lot of names over the years, but fragile has never been one of them."
