Two Arrested After England's World Cup Kit Stolen in Transit to Kansas City

Two people have been arrested in connection with the theft of equipment belonging to the England men's national soccer team, Kansas City police confirmed, after items were taken from team vehicles during a transit operation from Florida to Kansas City ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The stolen equipment was subsequently recovered.

The theft occurred on a Friday night when vehicles carrying England's gear - dispatched ahead of the squad's arrival at their tournament base, Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City - were broken into. Police responded that evening and opened a formal investigation. "We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening," a Kansas City Police spokesman said at the time. "The investigation is ongoing." Footwear was among the items taken, though none of the missing equipment was classified as essential for match play, according to reporting by the BBC.

England, known as the Three Lions, are using Swope Soccer Village as their operational base for the tournament. The squad arrived in Kansas City on Saturday, with training sessions subsequently taking place at the facility. The pre-planned logistics operation - moving equipment into position before the players landed - was the stage at which the vehicles were targeted during the Florida-to-Kansas City journey.

England open their 2026 World Cup campaign on Wednesday in Arlington, Texas, against Croatia. They follow that with a group-stage fixture in Boston against Ghana on June 23, before concluding their group slate against Panama in New Jersey. The arrests and recovery of equipment remove a logistical disruption ahead of what the team and supporters expect to be a deep run in the tournament.
